Tanzania: Encroachers Asked to Keep Off Land Put Aside for Weather Station

Sengerema — THE Deputy Minister for Transport, Dr Charles Tizeba, has directed Ilemela District authorities in Mwanza City to take stern measures against residents who encroach on land where government intends to build a weather alert radar.
Speaking at the official launch of mobile weather alert for herdsmen, farmers, transporters and fishermen in Nyakaliro Village in Sengerema District, Mwanza Region, Dr Tizeba said that local authorities have to take on punitive measures against citizens who grab land at Nyasaka where a modern weather alert radar will be built.
"Government will construct a second weather alert radar which will be used in the Lake Zone Region to inform residents of climate and weather Changes," said Dr Tizeba adding that government will not tolerate trespassing.
Dr Teziba noted that the Tanzania Meteorology Authority (TMA), in collaboration with World Meteorology Organisation (WMO), a sponsor of the mobile weather alert project that the main objective is to keep farmers and business people aware of changes in the climate and weather at all times.
Country representative for MWO, Samuel Muchemi said that the mobile weather alert project will provide accurate information on weather alerts to communities. TMA Managing Director, Dr Agnes Kijazi pledged government's support towards weather alerts.
